Windows 9

Windows 9 refers to an OS that would be the successor to Windows 8 or Windows 8.1. However, Microsoft decided to name that OS Windows 10 instead.

Reasons for this were to market Windows 10 as a the last "major" Windows update^[1], and possibly to avoid issues with applications that check the OS string and not run if it starts with "Windows 9", as they assume that the OS would be either Windows 95 or Windows 98^[2].
