The second significant improvement to the Macintosh system software was launched with System 2 (System Software 0.3 and 0.5). Version 2.0 was released on April 1985, and it included the System 2.0 upgrade, which was quickly followed by System 2.1.

System 2.0 added the usage of AppleTalk and the newly released LaserWriter. Apple also eliminated the Put Back and Close All Finder menu commands. New Folder (which finally put an end to the Empty Folder saga), Print Catalogue (which printed the index of disc contents to the default printer), Use MiniFinder (which launched a simple At Ease-like launcher window instead of the memory-hungry Finder), and Shut Down were among the newly added Finder commands. System 2 was the first to provide dragging a disk icon to the Trash (Wastebasket) to eject the disk.

Nevertheless, while rebuilding the Desktop, System 2.0 inherited a problem from System 1.1. Because HFS was not yet available, rebuilding the desktop involved removing all folders and placing all data directly in the disk's root. MFS (Macintosh File System) did not allow nested folders, and all folder data was saved in the Finder's Desktop database.

The Hierarchical File System (HFS) was introduced in System 2.1 (Finder 5.0), and it features a real directory structure at the file system level. This version was designed particularly for the Hard Disk 20 and only supports HFS in RAM; startup and most floppy drives remain MFS 400 K volumes.

-Macintosh System 2 looks a bit like Macintosh System 1 and Macintosh System 3 in terms of eye colour and hair colour but this is because they are triplets  twins. Their outfits are similar colours too but Macintosh System 2 dons a light grey t-shirt with two pockets, black pants, a white belt in the style of the bar for open windows, a dark grey bowtie with white dots and a black Apple logo on it, and black shoes. With the release of System 2.1 he gained more confidence in himself.

-Fuj is part of the triplets with Prima who is more energetic and Saburo who is sometimes more formal compared to Fuji who is passive, so he is prone to being dragged into Prima's schemes, but Fuji is always willing to help out, even if he doesn't always understand what he's getting into.

-The son of Lisa-tan, the two of them get along but the developers attempted to convince him that he and his sister were much better than their own mother. The developers felt that Fuji and his sister were a better representation of the future of computing, trying to distance them from Lisa's legacy. Lisa-tan is a proud mother and she is happy to see her son succeed. System 2-kun looks up to his mother, always grateful for her support.

-Noting that Windows 1.0 was released the same year as Macintosh System 2, he and Wilma never got along at first as Windows 1.0 could not compete with Apple's OS however they became friendly to each other after Fuji defended her from Prima's rudeness towards her as Prima felt that Windows 1.0 was a threat to the Macintosh, and she was not afraid to show it. Fuji was appalled by Prima's behaviour towards her.
-Fuji's defence of Windows 1.0-tan made her realize that he was not the arrogant and dismissive person she thought he was. She began to see him as a kind and supportive friend, and they started to get along better.

-Fuji wields a turret styled after the trash can in the classic mac versions in reference to floppies being ejected when dragged onto the trash can. The turret not only shoots floppies disks but a large laser beam that has to be recharged.
