Thoughts on a fediverse instance for OS-tans.moe

So I’m pulling this from the discord server but I suggested the idea of making an official account on Mastodon for OS-tans.moe hosted on https://wikis.world/about.

But what’s the Fediverse and Mastodon? To keep it simple as I am not sure how many people know of it, the Fediverse is like a big online playground where you can socialise and share stuff, but it's not owned by one company.

Instead, it's made up of lots of smaller places (called instances) that connect to each other. Mastodon is one of the games you can play in this playground. It's a lot like Twitter, where you can post messages, follow people, and chat with them. The cool thing is you can choose which Mastodon instance you want to play on, and you can still talk to people on other instances, just like different parks in the same playground.

Pttn has plans to host his own Mastodon/Fediverse Instance(s) but he want to carefully study the technical aspects first however I ask here if the idea is a good idea.

Although we do have this forum, I suggested the idea of a forum in the first place so users wouldn’t be locked out from using the subreddit or the discord server. Yet as time passes, forums seem to become “old” and “outdated” so users could be more active on the Mastodon instance than on the forums. Our own instance could also be visible on other places, helping to spread the word.

It could also be fun to make silly accounts for our characters, post trivia, an OS release date or a character’s birthday

I'll repeat what Pttn said in regards to this but he wants to see which customizations are feasible for our purposes like properly unifying Wiki/Forum accounts and Fediverse ones. This means it might take a while to be set up, but the investment should be worth it.

Someone might ask "Why not Twitter" but uh, Twitter isn't in the best state right now. When the server does get set up Pttn might most likely announce it.
